Who Qualifies for a Medicare Advantage Plan
You are enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B
You live in the plan's service area. Which, for these plans, means Palm Beach County
You enroll during a period when you are allowed to make a change
The Three Plan Types You Can Actually Buy in Palm Beach County
You will see other plan types mentioned on national websites. In this county, these are the three that matter.
HMO: Lowest Costs, Strictest Network
You choose a primary care doctor and stay inside the plan network. Some plans require a referral before you see a specialist.

Local pattern: HMOs nationwide average around $3,500 in maximum out-of-pocket.

The tradeoff: Go out of network and you pay 100% of the cost yourself. Not a higher share. All of it.
PPO: More Freedom, More Exposure
You can see providers outside the network, usually at a higher cost and sometimes subject to a separate deductible. Referrals are generally not required.

Local pattern: PPOs nationwide average around $5,400 in maximum out of pocket.

The tradeoff: You pay for that flexibility whether or not you use it.
HMO-POS: The Middle Option
An HMO with a limited allowance to go outside the network at a higher cost. Fewer of these are offered.

The tradeoff: The out of network benefit is narrower than a PPO. Read what it actually covers before you assume it is a safety net.

What Happens to Your Coverage When You Leave Florida
If you spend part of the year out of your service area, or you travel to see family, this is the question to ask before you enroll. Not every Medicare Advantage plan follows you out of the state, and the card in your wallet gives no indication either way.
If Your Carrier Has a national network
You can find an in-network provider in most parts of the country and pay your normal in-network cost. You keep your coverage when you travel.
If Your Carrier Does Not have a national network
The moment you leave the service area, you may have to pay the full cost of care. Emergencies are still covered. Routine and ongoing care generally is not.
This is the detail we check first for anyone who spends summers out of state. On an HMO, out of network means you pay the full cost of that visit yourself. We have seen people find this out when using a medical provider in another state, which is the worst possible moment to learn it.
Before You Enroll, Let Us Check Three Things
Your medications
We run your list against the plan formulary and show you which tier each drug falls into and what it will cost for the year.
Your doctors
We confirm your specific providers are in the network, not just that the network is large.

Your travel
We check whether the carrier's network reaches where you actually spend your time.

Or call (561) 446-2821 and we will go through it on the phone.
What a Medicare Advantage Plan Really Costs in Florida
Four things determine what you actually pay. The monthly premium is the least important of them.

The Extra Benefits, and What They Actually Cover
Most plans here include benefits Original Medicare does not. They are real, and they are worth having. They are also usually allowances rather than full coverage, so it is worth knowing the difference before you choose a plan for them.
When You Can Enroll or Switch Plans
Annual Enrollment: October 15 to December 7
The main window. You can join a Medicare Advantage plan, switch to a different one, or drop back to Original Medicare. Changes take effect January 1.
Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment: January 1 to March 31
If you are already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one change during this window. You can switch to another Advantage plan or return to Original Medicare.
Special Enrollment Periods
Certain life events open a window outside the normal dates. Moving out of your plan's service area, losing other coverage, and changes in assistance eligibility are the most common ones we see.
We review our clients' plans every fall before the December 7 deadline, because plans change their networks, formularies and costs from one year to the next. The plan that fit you last year may not be the same plan in January.
We Narrow Down Plans to the One That Fits You
We work across carriers. This evaluation ensures the best outcome for you.
We check before you enroll. Your drugs, your doctors, your travel.
We are still here the rest of the year. When a bill shows up that does not look right.
Over 95% of our business comes from referrals.
