Four Ways to Cover What Medicare Doesn't

Original Medicare has copays, deductibles, and no cap on what you can spend in a year. These are the four ways to close that gap.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

PAY AS YOU GO. Low or no premium, drug coverage usually built in, often some dental and vision. The tradeoff is networks, copays, and prior authorization.

Best for: people who see a few doctors a year and take mostly generics.

Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

PAY UP FRONT. A monthly premium buys you any provider in the country who accepts Medicare. No networks, no prior authorization.

The tradeoff: you also pay Part B, a separate drug plan, and separate dental and vision.

Part D Prescription Drug Plans

Required for everyone on Medicare. Built into most Advantage plans, separate if you choose a supplement. Every plan covers a different drug list at a different price.

Best for: nobody skips this one. The question is which plan.

Special Needs Plans (SNP)

Advantage plans built around a specific chronic condition, or for people who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid.

Not everyone is eligible. We will tell you if you are.

Our Help Costs You Nothing

Original Medicare has copays, deductibles, and no cap on what you can spend in a year. These are the four ways to close that gap.

We are paid by the insurance carrier when you enroll, not by you

Your premium is identical whether you enroll through us or on your own

No obligation to enroll, ever. We give people time to review the information and make a fully informed decision

What does cost money is Medicare itself. Part B has a premium. Advantage plans have copays. Supplements have premiums. The question is never whether you are paying. It is whether you know what you are paying for.

We Check Your Prescriptions and Your Doctors Before You Enroll

Most Medicare advertising asks whether your drugs are covered and whether you can keep your doctor. Very little of it answers the question. This is where we spend most of our time.

Your Medications

Every plan sorts drugs into tiers. On the higher tiers you often pay a percentage of the drug's retail cost rather than a flat copay. That is the difference between a $47 month and a $600 month. We run your actual list against every plan before you enroll.

Your Doctors

On an HMO, going out of network means you pay the entire cost. On a PPO you pay more than you would in network for out of network services, but those services are still covered by your PPO plan. Some carriers have national networks, which matters if you spend part of the year up north. We verify every provider on your list first.

Worth knowing: The maximum out of pocket on a plan is a ceiling. It is financial protection for you.

How It Works

We talk

Your doctors, your medications, your budget, whether you travel, to find the plan that best fits your needs.

We research

Your drug list against formularies. Your providers against networks. Your zip code to see what is actually available.

We compare

And explain all options in plain English, not jargon.

We enroll you

On the phone together or in person, not a link in your inbox.

Most people need more than one call. We schedule the next one, provide the information you need, and make sure you are 100 percent comfortable with your plan choice.

The Part Most Brokers and Call Centers Skip

Enrollment is where most agents and call centers disappear. It is where we start being useful, by continuing to be available after enrollment.

A client called about a $400 bill from an in network doctor visit that did not look right. We had the client call the practice to ask how they got to the number. They had the wrong insurance on file. Her copay had already covered the visit in full.

  • A bill that looks wrong? We tell you what questions to ask your provider's office.

  • Need an in-network specialist? We put the provider list together for you.

  • Every October, we are ready to review your plan against next year's formularies, premiums, and networks.

Timing Matters More Than People Expect

Turning 65

A seven month window: three months before your birthday month, the birthday month itself, three months after. When you apply can affect your start date.

Still working

If your employer plan counts as creditable coverage, you can delay Part B and use a Special Enrollment Period when you retire, or when you decide your employer coverage is too expensive.

Waiting too long

Go 63 days without creditable drug coverage and Medicare adds a penalty to your Part D premium for life. COBRA does not count. That one catches people.

We Compare Across the Major Carriers

Medicare Supplements are standardized by law. A Plan G is a Plan G. The only real difference between carriers is price, and for the same person in the same zip code that difference can be significant.

What Our Clients Say

I was turning 65 and completely overwhelmed by all the mail and phone calls. Kevin sat down with my medication list and my doctors, walked me through every option in plain English, and never rushed me. It took two calls, and I knew exactly what I was signing up for.
